Masterton croquet player David Wickham has been named in the New Zealand team for the transtasman series against Australia in Nelson next month.

Wickham will be joined in the men's line-up by Aaron Westerby (Auckland), Chris Clarke (Canterbury) and Michael Wright (Wellington), while the women's line-up consists of Jenny Clarke (Canterbury), Laura Whittaker (Canterbury), Alison Robinson (Wellington) and Jane McIntyre (Canterbury).

Wickham's selection comes on the back of his open singles championship win at the Palmerston North City Club's annual tournament.

Wickham was unbeaten in section play before disposing of Aiken Hakes from Wellington 26-3 in the final. The division two singles championship also came to Wairarapa when Carissa Price (Carrington) took the title by winning five of her six games.

And there was further success in the handicap doubles championship where Mike Lings and Beth Seymour of the Masterton club won all their games.
