The young Masterton man at the centre of a storm over whether noodles were an adequate meal to give to people in the cells at Masterton police station has had a warrant issued for his arrest.

Callum Wayne Mahupuku, 20, of Lower Hutt, was due to appear in the Masterton District Court yesterday on one charge of drink-driving and another of possession of a pipe to smoke cannabis. Police allege that Mahupuku had a breath alcohol reading of 831mcg when stopped in Fitzherbert St, Featherston, on August 18.

He was charged with possessing the pipe on the same day.

In May this year Mahupuku hit the headlines after complaining about being only offered instant noodles with cold water during more than 40 hours in custody at the Masterton police station.
