Wairarapa MPs bottom of class

Our MPs have scored bottom-of-the-class ratings in a new survey of parliamentarians.

Their report cards are included in the Transtasman, a political newsletter out this week, which marks MPs out of 10.

Georgina Beyer scores 2, down from the 4 she was awarded in last year's roll call, and gets the comment "emotional and indecisive over her career".

"Could be an asset if she turned her mind to the job. Hanging on for the perks," it adds.

There's not a lot of comfort either for NZ First MP Edwin Perry who also rates 2 out of 10. "A baffling presence. Must be a very deep thinker."

Faring rather better was Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia, who represents the Ikaroa-Rawhiti Maori electorate, which includes Wairarapa, who scored 6.5.

Top poller was Prime Minister Helen Clark on 9.

"After a difficult year Labour still leads National. Clawed back lost ground heading for a third term and hungry for it. She's good."
