Vandalism forces workshops to end

A senseless act of vandalism has so shaken a resident artist at Aratoi's newest gallery that a series of workshops has been abandoned.

Aratoi director Tracy Puklowski said the attack at the Art Space Gallery in Queen Elizabeth Park left the glass windows smashed, part of an exhibit wreaked and the resident ceramic artist Kirsty Gardiner disheartened.

She was so disheartened about the attack she has decided to end the series of planned workshops she was running Mrs Puklowski said.

The attack on the former tourist information centre had happened sometime in the early hours of Monday morning.

It seems someone threw a rubbish bin through the window sending broken glass all over the floor and breaking one of exhibits.

Mrs Puklowski said she was very disappointed.

"It's the same old story a small minority of people ruining it for the majority."

Aratoi said the proposed workshop by south Wairarapa print maker Liz Bondy planned for the New Year was going ahead.
