Two men injured in Carterton crash

Two Wairarapa men were seriously injured this morning when a 4WD they were in rolled 20-metres down a bank near Carterton.

Wellington Free Ambulance spokesman Chris Matthews said a 111 call was received around 5.30am which was believed to have come from a local farmer.

Mr Matthews said a four-wheel-drive type vehicle was found down a bank on Waihakeke Road in Carterton.

One man was trapped inside the vehicle and another had managed to get out and was walking around.

Both men were in a status two (serious) condition, he said.

The trapped man was freed and transported to the emergency hospital at Wellington Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The other man was taken to Wairarapa Hospital in Masterton by ambulance.

"The patients weren't in a position to elaborate on what had happened due to their condition."
