CONCERN: Patrols have been focusing on motorcycle riders.
Wairarapa police were generally happy with the behaviour of drivers over the long weekend, despite two motorcycle accidents in the region.
A man was taken to Wairarapa Hospital on Saturday after a collision with a trailer on Blairlogie-Langdale Rd, and another was taken to Wellington Hospital after failing to negotiate a right-hand bend on Te Ore Ore Rd on Sunday.
Masterton police Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said motorcycle riders continued to be a "central focal point" for police.
"It's disturbing, I suppose. We had two motorcycle crashes over the weekend, one of them with quite serious consequences."
A Wellington Hospital spokesperson said the man was in a stable condition.
Mr Burr said there were also "quite a few complaints" of skidding vehicles in the Upper Plain area. "That's something that concerns us and other members of public," he said.
Many drivers were also found to be speeding during the holiday period, but police said most holidaymakers behaved well.
"Certainly there were a number of people caught speeding on the highways, but we were happy with the majority of long-weekend drivers," said Mr Burr.
Boy-racer convoys have also caught the attention of police after two incidents in recent weeks.
One involved up to 60 vehicles in the Longbush area just off the Masterton-Martinborough Rd, and the other involved a man being arrested for sustained loss of traction and possession of cannabis near Martinborough.
"A pattern certainly hasn't been established at this stage that would make us think this is a regular organised occurrence, but we will continue to police it strongly.
"We have been able to identify one of the vehicles in the incident down Long Bush way," he said, adding that the car had since been seized.
