Giants won the Kuripuni Tavern President's Grade men's softball tournament at South Park, Masterton for the second successive year.

The locals won all three of their pool games over the weekend before facing Dodgers Dynamos in the grand final.

A close game was anticipated but it was Giants who called the tune after taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the first innings, thanks in main to Gordon Wilmshurst striking a home run.

Another home run to Matt Kawana in the fourth innings also helped the Giants cause as they outplayed Dodgers for a comfortable 9-3 win.

Giants President Allan Clarke said it would be unfair to single out any Giants players for special mention, saying their win was due more to a team effort than anything else.

"It was one of those games where things pretty much went the way we wanted them to," he said.
