The answer is grow your own

Masterton's Cheryl Smith would like to see more families growing their own vegetables. "I think fruit and vege are very important. I would like to see them being more affordable but also it's a great thing if families can put in their own garden. I've got my own garden and I grow quite a lot of stuff," Ms Smith said.

Karen Best, Masterton, agreed families should look to grow their own, as otherwise parents who are on a budget would go for the cheaper options.

Pam Wickstead, from Gladstone, said she would like to see children being taught how to produce, cook and present fruit and vege. "You can't just load it up on a plate and expect them to eat it," she said. "Jamie Oliver encourages children in the UK to eat healthily and I'd like to see the same here."
