Superb Giants end Johnsonville's unbeaten run

Softball

Cross Country Rentals Giants scored an upset 6-2 win over Johnsonville in their Wellington-Hutt Valley premier two and three men's softball match at Johnsonville on Saturday.

Johnsonville were unbeaten going into the game and, while they still hold the lead on the competition table, Giants have now moved into second.

The highlight of the Giants' batting effort was an automatic home run by Duncan Nahona while Zac Doney recorded four safe hits.

Pitcher Michael McDermott showed control in keeping the Johnsonville batting line-up under wraps and there was tidy work in the field from Nicho Broughton at short stop and Kawana Gaunt at second base, who made some key plays.

The only other Giants team in action on Saturday were the under-13s, who went down 18-9 to Dodgers at Fraser Park.
