Summer sounds mark 100 years

A free concert will be held as part of the Castlepoint lighthouse 100-year celebrations this weekend with top class local talent.

The concert, which starts at 11am on Sunday at the Wairarapa Sports Fishing Club, includes Skaper, Mr Groove and Road Noise.

Former Masterton resident Hannah McGrail, who now lives in Auckland and has been singing in New York, will be the lead singer of Mr Groove for the day.

The weekend has been aimed at families and centennial celebrations director John Keen said the free concert was a way to get teenagers along.

"We decided we needed somewhere away from Castlepoint Reserve, as well."

Mr Keen said they were unsure how many people to expect but so far, the response had been positive.

He had listened to some of McGrail's music and described it as top class.

"We were lucky enough to get her to come out and sing on the stage," he said.

There will also be food and wine from local vineyards available.
