Squadron celebrates 70th annual parade

About 90 people turned out to celebrate the Masterton District Air Training Corps No21 Squadron's final parade and prizegiving at Hood Aerodrome on Tuesday night.

Flying officer Karen Stevens (NZCF) said the evening went incredibly well.

"It was the 70th annual final parade ... effectively, it was our 70th birthday."

As part of the evening, Stephen Bates spoke to the cadets on behalf of his father and former parent support committee member George Bates, who passed away this year.

Former unit commander Paul Walker and Mayor Garry Daniell also spoke.

The evening also marked the official opening of the Norris Wing, which is part of the squadron building.

The group will commence early next year.
