Second chance reaps rich reward

A second chance draw at a Carterton supermarket captured a $250,000 share in a first division Lotto prize for a woman living in the town.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, last week won a Lotto Lucky Dip in an in-store second chance draw competition at Carterton New World and won  $250,000 with the ticket in the Saturday night Lotto draw, according to NZ
Lotteries' chief executive Todd McLeay.

``This is obviously a woman with luck on her side _ and if things really do come in threes, she should buy a Big Wednesday ticket  too,'' Mr
McLeay said.

The woman is the first to claim her prize as one of four first division winners on Saturday.

She said yesterday she was ignorant of the draw result when she headed to the supermarket on Sunday morning armed with the winning ticket ``off the fridge door''.

``I went to get Vogels and bananas, and checked my ticket while I was there. It said first division winner but I thought there was a mistake, so I checked it again with the lovely lass at the counter.

``It turned out it wasn't a joke. It's an extraordinary thing and quite wonderful. Just shows it is worth entering those second chance draws.''

The woman said she was yet to decide what to do with her  windfall, but knew ``my wish to be  debt free is now a reality''.

``This is quite life-changing for us, so we're going to take a few days off and mull it over.''
