Rugby takes precedence

Cricket

Rugby is taking precedence over cricket in Wairarapa this weekend.

No interclub cricket will be played in the region because of the clash with the Hertz world rugby sevens in Wellington.

WCA executive officer Chris Cogdale said the decision came through clubs having difficulty fielding teams in recent seasons when matches clashed with the sevens tourney.

"A lot of players head down there and the clubs decided it made sense to have the weekend off," he said.
