Riders shine in gruelling challenge

Wairarapa riders featured prominently in the Wellington to Auckland Cycle Challenge last week, with two in the top three of their age groups.

Julie Shakespeare completed the event in 33h 15m 52s to finish runner-up in the women's 40-49 years division, while Diane Chesmar recorded 32h 51m 02s to finish third in the women's 50-59 years section.

In the men's, Paul Wallace was sixth in the 50-59 years in 25h 05m 04s, Warwick Burr 15th in the 50-59 years division with a time of 26h 52m 19s and Michael Sutton 15th in the 40-49 years class with a time of 27h 08m 41s. All three also finished in the top 50 overall; Wallace in 24th, Burr 42nd and Sutton 46th.
