Remarkable win for Hogg

Bowls

Teresa Hogg overcame her inexperience to win Bowls Wairarapa's Wairarapa Electrical women's open 2012-13 singles title.

Hogg, who has been playing the sport for less than five years, met Dorothy Christensen in the final and they had a battle royal, the lead see-sawing on several occasions before Hogg secured a 22-19 victory.

The plate section was won for the second successive year by Jean Paku, who defeated Mary Jackson in the final.

On the interclub front, the first two series of matches in the McKenzie Motors men's and women's sevens competitions have been played and they have produced some interesting results.

In the men's competition, Featherston and Martinborough share the lead with 34 points, followed by defending champions Masterton 30, Carrington 22, Park 21, Greytown 15, Lansdowne 14 and Eketahuna 7.

The women's competition is led by Masterton on 38 points and then come Martinborough 37, Lansdowne 30, Eketahuna 28, Featherston and Greytown 21 and Carrington-Park 7.
