Record shearing bid called off

Shearing

A world sheep shearing record attempt which was to have taken place yesterday in Central Hawke's Bay had to be cancelled because the lambs selected for the event would not have met the requirements of the World Sheep Shearing Records Society.

The decision was made late Wednesday night after the judges, including one from Australia, inspected the flock of more than 2000 lambs and spoke with shearers Cam Ferguson, Adam Brausch and Ringakaha Paewai and event manager Bill Hale.

The judges ruled the lambs did not carry sufficient head wool and the bid could not go ahead.

The trio had been targeting an eight-hour, three-stand lambshearing record of 1784 shorn by Digger Balme, Roger Neil and Dean Ball in 1999.
