Wairarapa SPCA are pleading to burglars who stole an 8-week-old puppy during the weekend to return him.

Manager Val Ball said the Foxy cross was stolen from the outdoor dog complex sometime between 12.45pm and 2.30pm on Saturday.

It appeared the burglars had come over a gate on the side of the complex, and taken the gate off the hinges to leave.

Mrs Ball said the organisation was only open by appointment on Saturdays and one of the volunteers had left about 12.45pm.

She and another volunteer returned about 2.30pm to find the puppy was gone.

The goldy-brown and white dog had had his first set of vaccinations.

The puppy was not de-sexed as he was not old enough.

Mrs Ball said it was the SPCA's responsibility to care for the animals, so a large part of their policy was de-sexing.

She hoped to see the puppy returned.

"We want the puppy back or they come in and adopt it," she said.

"It's the principle of stealing an animal from the SPCA."
