Play profits a $400 boost to paediatrics ward

Gladstone School donated the profits of their latest School Production to the Paediatrics ward at Wairarapa hospital.

The children's rendition of the play 'The Peace Child' brought over $400 over three nights.

Deputy Principal Lee Quayle said he was overwhelmed with the response.

"It was only a gold coin donation but there were people putting in twenty dollars," he said.

The three shows were full to capacity and overall there were much more people at the show than the school has had in previous years, Mr Quayle said.

Head clinical nurse manager Tess Geard said she was impressed with the community's generosity.

"It is fantastic that people are so willing to give back to their community," she said.

Mrs Geard has a few about what they money could be spent on.

"I was thinking that updating our DVD collection might entertain the kids the find themselves in here - it can get a tad boring being in hospital," she said.

Kelsie Edwards, 12, said her favourite part of the play was that everybody got apart they liked.

"All the seniors got main parts and everyone liked the part they got," she said.

Phoebe Noble, 12, said she was glad the community was so generous.

"There were lots of people there - Mums and Dads but also other people that had heard about it."

The "Peace child' was a play about two very different tribes trying to get along.

The whole school was involved and Taylor Houston, 13, said it was a good experience having everyone working together.

"Every class had an item - even the little ones," he said.
