BEFORE it even opened its doors for business, Greytown photographer Geoff Walker's new shop on Main Street was targeted by burglars at the weekend.
They broke in and stole $3000 worth of framed photographs.
The latest addition to Greytown's business centre, The Village Image, was due to open this week, but the burglary has set back the opening to December 1.
"It's a bit disappointing, I have just come from Auckland where you expect this kind of thing, but not in Greytown," Mr Walker said.
The thieves stole 12 framed prints by Masterton photographer Pete Nikolaison. The images are of distinctive Wairarapa landscapes.
The burglary was discovered on Sunday morning when Mr Walker arrived to move into the adjoining house.
Mr Walker said he is hoping the photos might be recognised by someone if the thieves try to sell them.
The owner of the photos, Pete Nikolaison, was resigned to the loss.
"I've been doing this for too many years. You just have to take it on board, and at the end of the day, they were insured," he said.
