Net feedback runs hot
Wairarapa residents have mixed opinions on the future of their local councils, according to feedback through a new website and Facebook page.
A possible change in governance is being considered by the councils and several options have been researched.
The website and Facebook page were launched two weeks ago for public discussion.
Wairarapa Governance Review Working Party chair Lyn Patterson said this aimed to raise awareness among the community and to get people talking.
They have only been running for a few weeks, but she said there had been a variety of feedback.
"It's really important that our community are aware of what's happening regarding possible re-structure of local government throughout New Zealand," she said.
Mrs Patterson said along with the online presence, they have also had radio advertisements and regular information released to the media.
She said there had been a good amount of activity on the Facebook page, which had 61 "likes" on Tuesday morning.
Recent posts on the page include a few people showing support for a specific option, and a concern for the lack of consultation with those in the Tararua District.
"A long way to go still but an encouraging start. Great stuff!" posted Brian Jephson.
Carterton District Business Inc posted: "excellent way to get people talking, sharing thoughts and ideas and ensuring everyone is kept informed".
Mrs Patterson said they appreciate all the feedback they have received so far, and it's great people are taking the time to understand the issue.
"We've had a steady trickle of feedback from out website and that's really pleasing," she said.
