Name suppression after sentence for burglary, assault

A Carterton man was sentenced yesterday to 10 months of home detention and 200 hours of community service for aggravated burglary and assault.

The offender, 21, appeared in Masterton District Court having earlier pleaded guilty to the offences.

Judge Peter Hobbs suppressed both the man's name and the details of his offending, "to protect the integrity of the upcoming trial of your co-accused".

The man's co-accused has pleaded not guilty to the aggravated burglary charge.

Through his lawyer, Louise Elder, the man offered $260 for emotional harm and a letter of apology to the burglary victim - which the victim was free to accept or reject.

Conditions of the man's home detention included alcohol and drug counselling.

Judge Hobbs told the man if he breached the sentence, "you will be sentencing yourself to prison".
