There's been a pretty clear reaction to the thief who robbed a 91-year-old on a mobility scooter outside the Masterton council offices.

It's been loud and unanimous: what a scumbag.

We spoke to the brave woman last week, and although she didn't want to be named or photographed for the paper, she still showed a lot of courage in speaking out about what happened.

You'd hope that someone in their 90s, who's healthy and active enough to still go about their errands under their own steam - albeit with the assistance of a mobility scooter - would get nothing but respect from those they encounter.

I'd like to think that aside from this sad incident, in most instances, they do.

So let's hope this incident doesn't prevent others who are elderly and may feel more vulnerable as they go about town from getting out and about.
