Masterton street lights slow to glow

Street lights in Masterton had to be turned on manually on Monday night after a fault plunged the town into darkness.

Powerco network operations manager Phil Marsh said street lights in and around the town were switched on and off by the Masterton ripple injection plant, which sent out signals through the electricity network.

On Monday night there was a fault at the Masterton plant and street lights had to be activated manually while repairs were undertaken, he said.

Most lights were on by 7.30pm, although a small number in the outer suburbs may not have come on, Mr Marsh said.

The fault was repaired yesterday.
