Masterton Intermediate team take softball title
Boys from Masterton Intermediate School have earned the title of Supersport Softball Champions after beating a rival school in the Manawatu competition.
Aleisha Mahony, teacher in charge of softball, said two MIS teams competed at the recent Manawatu Supersport competition.
Supersport is an annual competition for intermediate schools and includes cricket, rugby and hockey. MIS was the only Wairarapa school that entered.
The boys team, coached by teacher Niheta Veale, beat Feilding Intermediate School in the final 7-0.
"We now hold the title of Supersport Softball Champions for the next 12 months," said Ms Mahony.
The school will hold the banner until the next competition.
"It was really exciting that we came in with the banner," she said.
"This is the first banner we've earned for a wee while, so it's exciting."
She said both teams worked really hard and showed commitment by turning up to practices held during hot lunch breaks.
"It was a great day."
The kids are also playing Friday night softball at South Park, Masterton.
"We're starting the year off really well," said Mrs Mahony.
