Hot weather on way

File

Wairarapa's mixed bag of weather over Christmas and New Year is about to settle down to a more traditional summer pattern for the coming weekend, according to the MetService.

Temperatures are expected to soar along the entire east coast of the North Island on Saturday, hitting 30C, with a repeat on Sunday on the cards.

There is no guarantee though that the hot weather will persist into next week, with the chief forecaster Peter Kreft saying yesterday that Monday would see a southwesterly flow over the country.

That should cool things down in most places but westerlies may return to boost mid-week temperatures.

Unpredictable weather in the days immediately after Christmas and over New Year did not impact as much as were first feared on planned events throughout the district, but did interrupt some rural activities.

The cutting of baleage crops slowed down due to intermittent showers and high winds.

Among groups greeting news of good weekend weather will be the Woodville-Pahiatua Racing Club which is staging its biggest raceday of the year on Saturday, the feature being the Woodville-Pahiatua Cup.
