Wairarapa people can have their say on local government reform at a public meeting tonight.

Wellington Region Local Government Review Panel, which is running the forum, was set up in May by Greater Wellington Regional Council and Porirua City Council, and is chaired by Sir Geoffrey Palmer.

"We want as much public feedback as possible," Sir Geoffrey said.

"In addition to the work being undertaken by the three Wairarapa councils, the panel wants to discuss issues that span across the Wellington region," Sir Geoffrey said.

"These are issues such as transport, flood protection, water quality and regional planning." The panel will report back to both councils with a recommended option in late October.

The meeting will be held at Carterton Events Centre from 5.30-7.30pm tonight.
