Shearing

Masterton's David Gordon showed his versatility in the shearing and woolhandling events at the Central Hawke's Bay Show on Saturday.

Gordon won the intermediate shearing title and the junior woolhandling final, a similar feat to that achieved by his sister Cushla, when she won the novice shearing and junior woolhandling crowns at the North Island championships in Feilding in February 2008.

Cushla is now married to open shearer Paerata Abraham and expecting their first child.

Also on Saturday, another member of the Gordon family, Samantha, was runner-up in the senior woolhandling final, having tied on points with Pania Piwari of Hastings, who got the nod with better wool-assessment points. Unfortunately a communication mix-up regarding the results meant Gordon was presented with the first prize and gave the victory speech.
