The Wairarapa Sports Education Trust's (WSET) mid-winter golf tournament was a huge success with over $6000 being raised for sport in the region.

Surviving one postponement, the event saw 30 teams, each consisting of four players, do battle for a wide variety of prizes, which were donated by 60 sponsors.

Organisers were helped by Masterton Golf Club's decision to delay activities for seven days when rain and cold conditions threatened to ruin the original date.

This meant transferring the tournament to Black Friday and it turned out to be lucky for some, especially Duncan Didsbury who won the toss with Blyth King to decide the winner of the men's competition and for Jenni Johnston, whose team was first in the women's section.

The overall Stableford competition was won by the Didsbury team which also included Gary James, Richard Kirton and Fraser Smith.

The WSET has poured more than $130,000 into sport in the community over the past eight years.
