Giants expect litmus test to go down to the wire

Softball

Cross Country Rental Giants are expecting a battle royal with Wainuiomata in their Hutt Valley Presidents grade men's softball match at Wainuiomata tomorrow.

The two teams sit at the top of the points table and with Wainuiomata reported to have an ex-Black Sox pitcher in their line-up, the depth in the Giants batting order should be well and truly put to the test.

And the same goes for the Wainuiomata batters who will have to front the guile of Giants' Tony Nixon, who has pitched at the highest levels here and overseas.

"I wouldn't think there will be a lot of runs in it," Giants president Allan Clarke said. "It could go right to the wire."

Giants premier threes should retain the lead in their Hutt Valley-Wellington competition by beating Totara Park at South Park, while the Giants under-13s and under-15s will also be attempting to stay at the top of their Hutt Valley comps. The under-13s are at home to Hutt Valley Marist and the under-15s away to Totara Park.
