Giants comeback seals vital premier win

Softball

Cross Country Rentals Giants came from 6-1 down to beat Totara Park 17-12 in their Hutt Valley-Wellington premier three men's softball match at South Park, Masterton, on Saturday.

The win virtually guaranteed Giants a place in the March 16 final and came on the back of a solid all-round performance. Highlights on the batting front were automatic home runs by Jordan Waitere and Michael McDermott while Justin Fricker was outstanding in the outfield.

Giants and Wainuiomata had a battle royale in their Hutt Valley Presidents grade fixture at Wainuiomata with the home team winning 2-1.

It was in the batting department where Giants struggled with only four safe hits registered all game. They came from Trevor Cross, who was celebrating his 64th birthday, Robbie Bull, Ken Robertson and Bryan Hourigan.

Pitcher Tony Nixon was in top form for Giants, whose place in the semifinals is assured.

The Giants under-15s went down to Totara Park while the under-13s scored a default win over Marist.
