HedSpace gallery is as good as any in a major city, says Wellington curator David Alsop - good enough for leading contemporary photographer Fiona Pardington to show 10 of her best.

Mr Aslop, who owns Wellington's Suite Art Gallery, was in Masterton yesterday to hang the latest exhibition - Pardington's prints are on show with artworks from Wayne Youle and Arie Hellendoorn.

It is Mr Alsop's first time curating a show at HedSpace, and he said it was a fantastic space to work with.

"It is as good as you would see anywhere with this amount of space."

Pardington has just been chosen for a Colin McCahon residency, Youle is a former Rita Angus residency artist and Hellendoorn has just signed with a respected gallery in Sydney.

Pardington's work Ake Ake Huia holds the New Zealand record for the highest price fetched at auction for a single photograph at $30,386, and her series Nine Hei Tiki sold for $64,278 in 2010.

The exhibition is running at HedSpace, at the back of Hedley's bookstore, on Queen St until January 5.
