The Bumblebee Transformers car won in Masterton will be soon be buzzing down to a new owner in Christchurch.
Masterton engineer Michael Holland won the replica American muscle car this year in a national draw in which he was entered as a Dick Smith shopper _ he had bought two sets of computer speakers worth $99 apiece.
Mr Holland, a native of Lancashire in England, has lived in Masterton for the past two years on a working visa but is now fighting to remain in New Zealand after his work dried up.
Mr Holland decided to sell the Transformers Camaro he won _ partly because of the immigration hiccup and partly because he needed the cash.
He consequently passed the vehicle to specialist car salesman Rick Walzack, of Carterton, who put the Bumblebee replica on to the Waggs car yard in Masterton.
Three motorists have been eyeing the rare vehicle, Mr Walzack said, including a Christchurch man who confirmed his intention to buy on Friday and beat out his competitors. Mr Walzack would not reveal the agreed price for the vehicle.
