Masterton has taken full advantage of free swimming at Genesis Recreation Centre this week, with almost 1000 people taking a dip on the busiest day.

The pool has been free for swimmers since last week, and will remain that way until Friday.

A $12,000 grant from Lands Trust Masterton will cover the cost of the week.

Customer services co-ordinator Laura McFadzean said it had been a "pretty hectic" few days, and more than 900 people went to the pool last Sunday.

She said everybody has been well behaved, and the warmer weather had encouraged people to come down and "cool off".

"We 've had a few ups and downs ... it's quite hard when you get bigger volumes come through the door but the lifeguards are definitely keeping on top of it."

Mrs McFadzean said feedback from those visiting the pool has been great: "Everyone's quite happy Trust House had put money towards it".

Mrs McFadzean expected the last few days to be a bit slower as the kids head back to school.

Masterton's Jo Scott was at the pool on Wednesday with her daughters Chloe, 3, and Keira, 5.

She said this was their second visit and they planned on at least one more.

"It's been great. It's been the perfect week for it with the weather."

Entry is usually $5.10 for adults and $3.60 for children, students and over 60s.
