Electric country four-piece Henpicked are staging their inaugural Wairarapa performance next month.
Anje Glindemann, band drummer and singer, said the coming Saturday night gig at The Lounge in Carterton follows on from successful performances for the Kapiti-based unit _ three woman and a man _ throughout the North Island.
''We focus on multiple vocal harmonies and deliberate arrangements on guitar, keyboard, accordion, bass and drums.
''We're mainly country and an early dub-based sound delivered in an uncluttered semi-acoustic and electric style.''
Glindemann said the band ''loosely align'' to modern folk and alternative country and have a sound ''with roots in the same sorts of music'' produced by The Violent Femmes, The Warratahs, Johnny Cash, Herbs, KD Lang, Paul Kelly, Norah Jones, and Patsy Cline.
She said the man of the band, Dean Murray, is a renowned talented songwriter, who has won numerous awards for country music writing.
He was in the top ten at the Independent Music Awards in the United States and won the Peoples Choice section, she said, and he also figured in the Top 10 at the MLT Awards in Gore and has won awards in the Pacific Song Writing competition.
Henpicked keyboardist and accordion-player Carylann Martin is also a gifted songwriter, Ms Glindemann said, ''with an illustrious music pedigree'' including bands such as Kawarau County, Banana Republic, Andrew London, and Legal Tender.
Bassist Kirsten London carries ''a bit of a Beatles influence'' to the stage and even plays a Hofner bass guitar (like Paul McCartney).
Ms Glindemann describes her drumming contribution to the Henpicked sound as ''brushes feel _ played sometimes soft, sometimes solid'', and has played drums for Tin Pan Alley, Monty Wolf, Karen Clarke, Carol Bean, and Andrew London.
She said the band is in the final stages of producing an album of about 14 songs, which will also include the music video to Everybody's Famous.
Henpicked will also play at the 2011 Wollaston Nelson Jazz & Blues Festival in January.
