The red carpet will be rolled out and the bubbles flowing at The White Swan Hotel in Greytown for a 1970s black tie dinner and disco charity fundraiser.

Assistant manager and main organiser Terry Tibble said the three-course meal will be cooked by award-winning chef Shannon Katipa, and although the menu is a surprise she promises a "grand" dessert.

She said after much bantering in the office it was decided the theme would be disco.

Tickets have been limited to 100, and are selling out fast. "It's been received really well."

Guitarist Conway Jeune will play throughout the meal before the party gets started, and it will take up the whole hotel so the bar won't be open to public on the night of November 26.

The annual fundraiser started after the success of last year's Millionaire's Night Out.

Owner Rob Slater said the event is to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation, after his family realised how many Wairarapa families were affected by cancer.

"My wife and I have four children now ... so it's something that's touched us," he said.

"And we thought it was a great opportunity for people who didn't necessarily have a black tie get up."

Mr Slater said the community has been generous in support for the disco.

There will also be live and silent auctions throughout the event, with prizes ranging from nights away to haircuts - all donated by local businesses.

To buy a $60 ticket or bid in the auctions call Terry Tibble at The White Swan on (06) 304-8824.
