Cricket legends in town

AUSSIE cricket legends Doug Walters, front, and Peter Philpott, right at rear, spent the week with the cream of North Island's young cricketing talent at Rathkeale College, passing on their immense skills to a generation that will some day battle the Australians for the top spot in world cricket. "If they are all as keen as these guys, it won't be long before New Zealand is bouncing right back," Walters said. "We get a lot of satisfaction from seeing the kids improve over just a couple of days. They have a superb campus and wonderful cricketing facilities here," Philpott said. The week-long cricket camp is run by Brendan Bracewell. One of the cricket trivia questions that stumped the young players the previous evening was one their coaches certainly would have known. The stand that the first catch of this week's one-day test was taken in front of was named after whom? Answer: Doug Walters.
