It was a Masterton quinella when Bowls Wairarapa held their Trust House women's and men's fours championship events, at Carrington Bowling Club in Carterton.

Seven teams contested the women's event, with the Masterton combination of Judith Wyeth, Joy Gibbs, Wyn Dellabarca and Dorothy Christensen edging out Eketahuna's Makaia Campbell, Wendy Mitchell, Elwyn Flannery and Bev Bryant in the final. Masterton won 10-8.

There were 10 teams in the men's competition and it was won by the Masterton team of John Claydon, Warren Fisher, Owen Davey and Alec Day. They played Les O'Donovan, Lennie Le Gros, Ian Simons and Rick Ellis in the decider, with Masterton winning 15-10.

Weather conditions are causing a major problem for most Wairarapa bowling clubs with the hot, dry conditions constantly threatening to burn off the greens.

For this to be avoided there has to be sufficient moisture in the ground and that too can create a problem. Too much moisture and the pace of the greens slows down, too little and they become unplayable. It is proof that keeping a green up to scratch is never as easy as it looks.
