Cannabis 'addict' convicted in court

A Masterton man who his lawyer described as being "addicted to cannabis" was convicted of possession of the drug and fined $750 in Masterton District Court on Tuesday.

Sergeant Garry Wilson said that at 1.45pm on September 21, police called to Shane Aspinall's home and carried out a search of his premises.

During the search they found seven cannabis plants which were between 30cm and 50cm in height which Aspinall said he had been cultivating for his own use.

Defence lawyer Jock Blathwayt said, "It's obvious my client has a problem with cannabis and he's addicted to it.'
