Cafe Cecille targeted again

Cafe Cecille has been targeted by burglars for the second time in as many weeks when it was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning. Burglars gained entry by kicking in a window on the western side of the premises on Sunday night. Police said that nothing was reported stolen.

This latest break-in follows an incident two weeks ago when burglars used a similar method to enter the building and steal alcohol. The cafe was also broken into in July when a large rock was thrown through a window. Liquor was also stolen on that occasion. Cafe Cecille is located in the centre of Queen Elizabeth Park and has been seen as an easy target by burglars due to its isolation.

In other police incidents, a 17-year-old Masterton man was found sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle with a blood alcohol level five times the legal limit after he drove to Margaret Street at 3am on Sunday. Someone in the area reported to police that the man was unconscious in his car just after seeing him arrive at the address.

Police said the man's blood alcohol was 760mg per litre, with the legal limit for his age group being a maximum of 150mg per litre. The man has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol.

Vandals knocked down four give-way signs on the intersection of Renall Street and Ngamutawa Road.

The signs had been snapped and pulled out of the ground and left in the area, and were discovered by police on Sunday morning. No witnesses saw the vandalism.
