KFC is refurbishing its Crayne St store in a national rebranding move.
Seating is increasing from 36 to 52, the entrance is moving and the drive-through lane alters. Exterior changes and a new sign are included in changes that will cost two of the 21 on-site carparks.
Meanwhile, a childcare centre on Casel St is expanding into a residential property next door.
Good Beginnings Educare Centre manager-owner Nicola Burling said parents wanted extra hours and there were several on the waiting list.
Twenty-two children would be added to their roll and four fulltime staff once the new facility was built.
Parking for six cars is planned.
Ms Burling did not know renovations would start but she hoped they would be complete by the end of the year.
Lansdowne Lifestyle Village on Titoki St is adding four purpose-built blocks and 52 new car parks.
The buildings will add new care studios, dining and social areas, a library, and 50 beds and 22 apartments.
The retirement home will add 60 caregivers, 20 support staff, and 15 new nurses to the staff.
Construction is expected to begin in January and take a year.
