Child Cancer Foundation will get a cash injection of more than $8000 after the success of the 1970s black tie dinner and disco charity fundraiser last weekend.

The White Swan $60-a-head event attracted nearly 100 people.

Owner Rob Slater said the night was "amazing" and the staff did a great job.

"Everyone looked amazing dressed up in their'70s kit," he said.

Everybody was welcomed with a red carpet, and were entertained by musicians Conway Jeune and Shaun Preston.

"He had people dancing on top of the piano," Mr Slater said.

There was also live and silent auctions throughout the night, with prizes ranging from nights away to haircuts; all donated by local businesses.

"It was just really positive to have the support from the local community," he said.

Guests were also served up a retro menu of seared yellow fin tuna, chicken liver parfait, surf and turf and NZ king salmon and seared scallop duo, by head chef Shannon Katipa. He also carved a white swan sculpture out of margarine.

Mr Slater said the staff finished up about 2am, and many were back on deck early Sunday morning to help put the place back together.

He said assistant manager and organiser Terry Tibble did a great job with the event, and it was a "really successful night".
