There was no grand opening or cutting of the ribbon but McCafe did quietly open in Masterton this week.

McDonald's franchisee Roger Knapper said McCafe opened its doors at 6am on Monday with an intended "soft opening so staff have a chance to get up to speed with all the new systems.

"We've had great feedback about the coffee and there's been plenty of people coming through and having a look to see what's on offer."

The official opening with special guest Ronald McDonald will be held on June 15, he said. "There will be a Ronald McDonald magic show and various other events that are still being confirmed."

He said everything within the newly-transformed $1.6m building is complete except for the seating and cleaning.

"Once the last of the seating is in place and the cleaners have been through it will be all systems go."

Six McDonald's staff have been trained in coffee-making to run the McCafe from 6am until 8pm, he said.

"Everything will be signed off by Friday and then it will be back to business as usual with the opening next month."
