Seventy years of Wairarapa caravans and other wheeled residences rolling through the region will be celebrated during an anniversary weekend in Carterton this month.
Harry Shackleton, Wairarapa Caravan Club president and retired Masterton firefighter, said the anniversary event is to be held at the Carterton Holiday Park from February 19.
He said about 70 caravaneers and motor home owners from throughout the North Island will attend the weekend, which will feature an anniversary dinner at the Carterton Club.
Mr Shackleton, who has been a member of the club along with wife Lorraine since 1978, said there are now eight Wairarapa club members who despite their number remain absolutely active in their highway homes.
"In the past five years Lorraine and I have done coming up for 33,000 kilometres - it's the comradeship that really makes it all count."
